Easy French Bread

Serves: 2 or 3 loaves

2 1/2 cup very warm water
2 TBS sugar
1 TBS salt
2 TBS oil
6 cups flour
2 TBS yeast

Stir together water, sugar, salt, oil, 3 cups flour and yeast. Beat 2-3 minutes. Stir in remaining flour. Let rise 10 minutes. Beat down and let rise for 10 minutes again. Repeat this for a total of 50 minutes.

Turn onto floured board. Divide into 2 or 3 portions. Roll into flat rectangle. Roll long side tightly. Put on cookie sheet covered with cornmeal or parchment paper.

Cover and let rise 30 minutes. Slash 3 cuts into top of loaf. Brush lightly with beaten egg.

Bake at 375 for 25 minutes.
